Job description

World Services at M+C Saatchi partners with governments, civil society, foundations, academia, and the private sector to address critical issues such as national security, social justice, and conflict prevention. We offer a fully integrated, end-to-end service, combining multidisciplinary communication teams with subject matter experts worldwide. Our work impacts both domestic and global contexts, often affecting vulnerable populations, with a focus on developing countries and fragile, conflict-affected states.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Data Engineer to support the maintenance and development of Human Digital’s databases, data pipelines, and customer-facing data visualization tools. The ideal candidate will quickly understand our existing infrastructure, contribute to fixing and improving code from the outset, and collaborate with the Lead Developer to design, test, and implement new functionalities.

Human Digital provides data and research to help our clients understand and respond to threats such as terrorism, violent extremism, and foreign state interference. We are a small team of analysts and engineers committed to making a positive impact.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support the Lead Developer in maintaining and developing data ingestion pipelines.
  • Write complex SQL queries for data extraction and analysis.
  • Assist the Front-End Engineer in debugging, improving, and testing existing dashboard code.
  • Proficiency in Python.
  • Manage SQL databases.
  • Collaborate closely with research and business teams.
  • Contribute to enhancing performance, security, and scalability of data processes.

ABOUT YOU

The successful candidate will understand data ingestion pipelines and storage practices, and be familiar with creating front-end visualizations. They should be willing to work on a range of tasks across back-end and front-end development.

  • At least 2 years’ experience in data engineering.
  • Relevant data engineering degree or qualification.
  • Motivated to deliver high-quality work.
  • Ability to communicate technical work to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Open to learning new technologies.
  • Confidence in engaging with research/business teams for necessary information.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, agile environment.
Desirable skills include knowledge of AWS or similar cloud platforms, experience with front-end development (React, Plotly Dashboards), working with social media data or APIs, Git deployment, handling sensitive data, and experience in national security, defense, or cybersecurity.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Tuesday, May 27. No recruiters please.
