Job summary

Academics is seeking a dedicated SEN Learning Support Assistant to support pupils within a specialist secondary school in East Sussex. The role involves assisting students with dyslexia and other Specific Learning Difficulties, delivering targeted literacy support and adapting teaching approaches.

You will work alongside teachers to ensure lessons are accessible, break down tasks, and use multisensory strategies to reinforce learning.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children in educational or support settings.
• Interest in dyslexia, literacy development or learning difficulties.
• Patient, encouraging and adaptable communicator.
• Capable of supporting pupils while maintaining their independence.
• Proactive, reliable and passionate about education.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils aged 11–19 with dyslexia and related learning difficulties.
• Work with teachers to make lessons accessible and engaging.
• Provide one-to-one and small-group support with reading, writing and spelling.
• Break down instructions and reinforce learning using multisensory approaches.
• Help pupils develop organisation, study skills and independence.
• Encourage confidence, resilience and a positive attitude toward learning.
