Job summary

The Compass School in East Lothian invites applications from well-qualified teachers for temporary, short- and long-term absences from October 2026. Qualifications

• Registered or eligible for GTCS registration in Scotland.
• Ability to plan and deliver a daily programme meeting local standards.
• Strong communication with pupils and parents.
• Committment to safeguarding and PVG checks.

Responsibilities

• Take responsibility on a temporary basis for a form class within The Compass School.
• Plan and implement the class's daily programme of study to meet individual needs.
• Teach the class and address individual learning requirements.
• Communicate with pupils using varied media and interact with pupils.
• Use a range of teaching strategies to match curriculum and student needs.
• Make effective use of IT in learning and teaching, e.g. interactive whiteboards.
• Set high expectations and pace of work for all pupils.
• Promote high standards of behaviour, punctuality, manners and dress.
• Collaborate with other professionals (e.g., SFL teacher, classroom assistant).
• Report to parents as required.
