Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is seeking a committed Sociology Teacher for a secondary school in Exeter, starting ASAP. This full-time, permanent role offers a salary on the MPS1-UPS3 scale and the chance to nurture student understanding of sociology, research methods and social issues in a supportive department.

You will plan and deliver lessons aligned with examination specifications, manage classes effectively and contribute to curriculum planning.

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
• Experience teaching Sociology at secondary level.
• Strong knowledge of the relevant curriculum and examination specifications.
• Ability to explain sociological theories and research methods clearly.
• Effective classroom management, communication and assessment skills.
• Commitment to developing students' analytical writing and critical thinking.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging Sociology lessons in line with the relevant examination specification.
• Teach topics such as families, education, social inequality, crime and social research methods, as appropriate to the course.
• Introduce students to key sociological perspectives and theories.
• Develop students' ability to evaluate evidence, analyse data and construct balanced arguments.
• Prepare students for internal assessments and relevant examinations.
• Encourage thoughtful discussion of social issues and different viewpoints.
• Adapt lessons to meet the needs of students with varying abilities.
• Assess written work and provide constructive feedback to improve analytical responses.
• Maintain an inclusive classroom environment that promotes respectful discussion.
• Contribute to departmental planning, resource development and curriculum review.
