Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is assisting a vibrant Manchester secondary school in finding a dedicated Teacher of Sociology to start in January. You will teach GCSE Sociology and A-Level Sociology within the Social Sciences department, delivering engaging, exam-focused lessons across KS4 and KS5.

The role welcomes experienced teachers or ambitious Early Career Teachers, offering a supportive environment, a collaborative faculty, and opportunities to contribute to post-16 pathways and extra-curricular

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognized teaching credential.
• A degree in Sociology, Social Policy, Criminology, or a closely related Social Science discipline.
• Demonstrated capability or proven experience teaching GCSE and A-Level Sociology (or a strong placement record for ECTs).
• Solid understanding of modern Sociology examination board specifications (e.g., AQA, OCR, Eduqas).
• Excellent classroom management, engaging delivery skills, and a genuine passion for guiding young people through social research and discourse.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging Sociology lessons across Key Stage 4 (GCSE) and Key Stage 5 (A-Level) that build analytical rigor, methodological understanding, and structured essay skills.
• Prepare students effectively for national examinations through data-driven progress tracking, exam technique practice, and constructive feedback routines.
• Relate sociological concepts and theories to real-world national issues and local Manchester contexts, cultivating deep social awareness and debate in the classroom.
• Track, assess, and report on pupil progress, implementing targeted interventions to support struggling learners and challenge high achievers.
• Contribute positively to the wider social sciences curriculum, extracurricular debate clubs, and university entry preparation for Sixth Form students.
