Job summary

Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust in Forest of Dean locality, Lydney, is hiring a School Nurse on a fixed term basis up to 14 months to backfill a maternity leave. The post is 30 hours per week, year round.

You must be a registered nurse or midwife and work with children and families, delivering Healthy Child Programme care, safeguarding, and health promotion in schools with a supportive preceptorship and supervision framework.

Qualifications

• Current registration as a nurse or midwife with the NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council).
• Experience in public health, school nursing or working with children and families is desirable.
• Ability to work in a school setting and engage with young people, families and communities.

Responsibilities

• Assess and implement care programmes from the Healthy Child Programme as directed by the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse.
• Progress interventions based on identified risk factors affecting a child's health outcomes.
• Provide leadership and act as a role model within the team, promoting professional values.
• Assess health needs of communities, schools and children to reduce disadvantage.
• Promote health in school-aged children and identify health, development or behavioural needs.
• Collaborate with schools to create a healthy school environment using data from pupil surveys.
• Facilitate planning and delivery of drop-in sessions for young people and the wider school community.
