Job summary

Finsbury Food Group in Pontypool is recruiting a Multi-Skilled Engineer to join our engineering team. You’ll perform planned and reactive maintenance across production and packing equipment, applying strong electrical and mechanical skills in a fast-paced FMCG environment.

This hands-on role emphasizes reliability, downtime reduction, and continuous improvement. You’ll work in a safety-focused team, use CMMS for maintenance records, and support production leadership to keep lines running at peak

Qualifications

• Strong multi-skilled engineering capability across electrical and mechanical disciplines.
• Able to troubleshoot and repair equipment independently.
• Experience in fast-paced manufacturing or FMCG, food manufacturing preferred.
• Proactive under pressure, prioritisation.
• Excellent fault-finding and root cause analysis skills.
• Experience using CMMS, ideally Mainsaver.
• Strong understanding of Food Safety, Health & Safety, and GMP standards.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Time-served apprenticeship.
• SVQ/HNC or equivalent engineering qualification.
• Appropriate electrical and mechanical competency depending on core discipline.

Responsibilities

• Deliver planned and reactive maintenance across a wide range of production and packing equipment.
• Diagnose faults quickly and effectively; minimise downtime and improve plant reliability.
• Carry out repairs, maintenance, and root cause analysis.
• Support continuous improvement and engineering projects.
• Ensure all work is completed safely and to a high standard.
• Record maintenance activity, downtime, and materials within the CMMS system (Mainsaver).
• Support compliance with Food Safety, GMP, and Health & Safety standards.
• Identify opportunities to improve machinery performance and operational efficiency.
• Communicate with Production and Engineering leadership regarding downtime and corrective actions.
• Support operators with basic asset care and equipment understanding.
• Monitor contractors to ensure standards and timelines.
