Duty Nurse Manager
London: Princess Grace Hospital
Full time 37.5 hours per week (Mon-Sun)
Shift times: Flexibility to work long days, Nights & Weekends
Permanent Contract

We are recruiting a Duty Nurse Manager to join our nursing team at The Princess Grace Hospital, currently rated “Good” by the CQC.

The Duty Nurse Manager team is an integral part of the operational running of the hospital, responsible for managing the in and out of hours challenges faced by an acute hospital.

This role requires a strong leadership background, excellent communication skills, experience in key decision making, risk management, problem solving, and good governance understanding.

The Duty Nurse Manager will work closely with the Matron & Chief Nursing Officer to support visible leadership at the Princess Grace Hospital.

The Duty Nurse Manager is responsible for the safe and effective running of the site 24/7 and holds responsibilities including coordinating patient flow, responding to Major Incident situations/alerts, fire safety responsibilities, out of hours management, and providing senior support to all units.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Provide senior nursing support and professional and clinical advice across all areas within the site and outpatient facilities.
  2. Act as the first point of contact for wards/departments during out-of-hours, liaising with senior managers on call.
  3. Act as the hospital manager, ensuring the safe and effective management of hospital systems and services.
  4. Manage patient flow, including unscheduled and scheduled admissions.
  5. Work with the Urgent Care Centre, Acute Assessment Units, and the Patient Flow Team.
  6. Lead the hospital’s emergency plans for fire, cardiac arrest, major incidents, etc.
  7. Collaborate with departmental heads to mitigate adverse effects on hospital operations.
  8. Ensure emergency admissions are properly assessed prior to admission.
  9. Develop risk-sensitive solutions for operational issues.
  10. Serve as a visible role model to staff.
  11. Conduct clinical reviews of patients with NEWS > 3 or increased NEWS scores.
  12. Communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
  13. Manage stressful situations effectively and work under pressure.

What you’ll bring:

  • Post-registration qualification
  • Previous management experience
  • Strong organizational and management skills
  • Experience in complex care, HDU, or Critical Care
  • ALS qualified (or willing to complete ALS)
  • Advanced clinical practice or assessment qualification
  • Commitment to CPD and Clinical Governance
