Duty Manager

YHA Pen Y Pass

Permanent contract

Between 25 and 42.5 hours a week

£12.44 per hour (applies to all, including those under the age of 21)

Staff accommodation is available at a rate of £63.70 per week

Are you looking for a fun and varied job in hospitality management? YHA Pen Y Pass is looking for a Duty Manager to support the Hostel Manager! YHA Pen Y Pass is located 360 metres up Yr Wyddfa, the tallest mountain in Wales. Hosting groups and solo travellers all year round, you will have the opportunity to undertake roles involving reception, catering, bar, café, and housekeeping. Join our lovely team in providing accommodation and positivity to our guests and hikers.

As a Duty Manager, you’ll support the Hostel Manager with the day-to-day management of the hostel. You’ll create a great place for our teams to work and ensure our guests have a great experience in our hostels.

What will you be doing as a Duty Manager?

We are a friendly team and will provide the training required for you to undertake the role. However, there is plenty for you to get stuck into from day one, including:

  • Guiding and supporting team members working in all areas of the hostel, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Using our systems for efficient guest check-ins and check-outs, food and beverage sales and service, and other management functions.
  • Carrying out housekeeping duties, ensuring a comfortable, clean environment for all visitors.
  • Assisting in the preparation and serving of food and drinks with genuine warmth, hospitality, and pride.
  • Deputising for the Hostel/Deputy Manager, managing the daily hostel operations in their absence.

What Skills and Experience do you need to be a Duty Manager?

Our Duty Managers are responsible for the line management of the teams within their hostels. They are also responsible for managing the operational budget and the safeguarding of all guests.

To provide this service, we are looking for candidates who have:

  • Experience of working face-to-face with customers
  • Experience in hospitality or customer service, including the management and delivery of a quality service
  • Experience of managing a team – experience of leading others, providing guidance to members of your team (desirable)
  • Food safety level 2 and APLH level 2 qualifications (desirable)
  • Ability to manage varying pressures, including peaks in workload demands – can prioritise, able to deal with conflicting duties
  • Basic IT skills (ideally Microsoft Office) – able to use Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel
  • Knowledge and understanding of the core purpose of YHA – what YHA does and how we do it
