Job description

DSEAR Technical Assistant

Location: Anglian Water Region-Wide
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £30,000 - £35,000

Support a Safer, More Resilient Future with Anglian Water

Are you highly organised with strong technical administrative skills and a desire to help drive safety compliance across critical infrastructure? Do you enjoy working with data, documentation, and cross-functional teams to keep programmes running smoothly and efficiently?

If so, this is your opportunity to join our specialist Process Safety team and play a vital supporting role in Anglian Water’s ongoing compliance with the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR).

We’re looking for a DSEAR Technical Assistant to provide administrative and technical support to the DSEAR Manager and wider team. Your contributions will directly support risk reduction, data accuracy, and compliance reporting across our asset base – helping ensure a safe and sustainable future for our people, customers, and environment.

At Anglian Water, we’re Always Exploring – striving to remain innovative, inclusive, and rewarding. By Doing The Right Thing, we commit to transparency, fairness, and development. And by Building Trust, we place health, safety, and wellbeing at the heart of everything we do.

What You’ll Be Doing

Reporting to the DSEAR Manager, you’ll play a key role in keeping our DSEAR compliance programme on track. You’ll manage data records, monitor mailbox queries, prepare inspection documentation, and support financial and project tracking across the team. You’ll also assist with drawing updates, certification retrieval, supplier liaison, and capital project planning.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the DSEAR Manager with programme coordination and delivery
  • Maintaining and publishing asset records and inspection data in Lighthouse
  • Managing the DSEAR team mailbox and tracking queries to resolution
  • Preparing and updating hazardous area zone drawings based on site documentation
  • Sourcing and storing EX certification for relevant assets
  • Updating SAP with accurate DSEAR and Process Safety flags
  • Collating and producing inspection reports from engineer findings
  • Assisting with the prioritisation and coordination of the annual capital programme
  • Liaising with suppliers to source and cost required equipment
  • Processing and integrating third-party DSEAR documentation
  • Ensuring compliance with POSWSH, POSMAINT, and asset tracking procedures
  • Promoting best practice across technical and safety standards

You’ll also support performance reporting and team operations by:

  • Analysing spend profiles and job completion versus budget
  • Preparing KPIs and efficiency reports for leadership insight
  • Tracking and recording training, briefings, and competence across the team
  • Taking minutes in meetings and ensuring completion of action points
  • Managing DSEAR team admin needs around IT, equipment, and CDM requirements

And from a financial management perspective, you’ll:

  • Assist with CAPEX and OPEX funding governance
  • Monitor contractor payments and accounting accruals
  • Develop skills in managing TOTEX budgets
  • Support adherence to capital governance processes

About You

You’re a proactive and detail-oriented team contributor, with strong organisational skills and a technical mindset. Whether working independently or supporting others, you’re confident handling data, preparing documentation, and keeping complex programmes running behind the scenes.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • ONC/OND or equivalent technical qualification (or proven ability)
  • GCSE-level English (or equivalent)
  • Background in technical or administrative roles (preferably within an engineering or operational environment)
  • Advanced IT and data-handling skills, particularly in Excel
  • Excellent organisation, time management, and communication skills
  • Confidence preparing and managing large datasets, links, and formulae
  • An adaptable, flexible attitude with the ability to maintain confidentiality

It would also be beneficial to have:

  • Knowledge of DSEAR, CDM regulations, or water industry operations
  • Familiarity with SAP Finance or Asset Data Management
  • Experience supporting project and capital programme delivery

Why Join Us?

As a DSEAR Technical Assistant, you’ll support a specialist team working to ensure hazardous areas are properly assessed, documented, and maintained across one of the UK’s largest utility networks.

You’ll benefit from:

  • Competitive salary
  • Private Health Insurance
  • 26 days holiday plus bank holidays (with flexibility for religious holidays and option to purchase more)
  • Pension Scheme – double matching your contributions up to 6%
  • Bonus scheme
  • Wide range of lifestyle benefits such as car, dental insurance, and gym discounts offered via salary sacrifice
  • Life cover – 8 x annual salary
  • Ongoing training and career development in a values-led organisation
