Job summary

NES Fircroft is recruiting a Research and Development Associate (Drosophila Geneticist) for a global Agricultural Science & Crop Protection client at Jealott’s Hill International Research Centre in Bracknell. This on-site contract role spans an initial 2 years, 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

You will join the Invertebrate Genetics team to deploy molecular-genetic tools and support insecticide discovery, emphasizing high-quality data and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Must have a degree / MSc in a relevant science discipline.
• Experience in a lab-based role is essential.
• Experience / knowledge of molecular genetic techniques is essential.
• Experience of working with Drosophila melanogaster is desirable.
• Excellent note keeping and organisational skills.
• Ability to interact effectively with colleagues. Good influencing skills.

Responsibilities

• Work with the project lead to evaluate and deploy molecular-genetic technologies to enable modulation of putative insecticide targets.
• Execute studies to support insecticide projects and programs.
• Develop an awareness of project key strategic goals.
• Communicate outcomes of experimental activities with stakeholders.
• Assist with the maintenance and enhancement of the invertebrate molecular laboratory, adapting to current business priorities.
• Assist with routine stock maintenance and compound screening activities.
• Solve scientific problems and produce high quality data to enable the project/platform to address business challenges using proven methodologies.
• Document experiments and test results, contributing to reports and proposing appropriate follow up actions.
• Maintain high standards of HSE compliance, which includes following all risk assessments, reporting of safety incidents and supporting the lab steward’s community when requested.
