Job description

Operations Coordinator

As Operations Coordinator you’ll be at the centre of the flight operations team organising the routine delivery of our drone inspection programme serving critical national infrastructure.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you’ll face and overcome daily challenges as part of, and collaboration with, an ambitious and dynamic Operations team.

To keep flight operations running smoothly and delivering high quality results to clients in an efficient manner you’ll have to effectively schedule multiple flight crews in the field by balancing the constraints of weather, client priorities, crew capability and fatigue whilst providing and supporting them with travel itineraries and logistical arrangements.

In your role you’ll be able to increase the quality of the Operations team output by acting as an effective client interface ensuring feedback is incorporated into processes and best practices. Flight crew quality of life will also increase as a result of your effective scheduling, forecasting, planning and field experience.

To ensure you fully understand the operations, you will be trained to fly our autonomous drones, and will spend around 20% of your time out in the field delivering missions. You don’t need to have previous drone experience, just good technical and IT skills, and a willingness to learn.

Depending on capability this role has scope for expansion into team administration and ownership of additional facilities and functions which make the Operations team and the wider company effective.

Your responsibilities
  • Flight scheduling: balance client priorities, weather conditions and logistical costs to produce an efficient flight schedule.
  • Crew scheduling: work with the Chief Pilot and technical area leads in the Operations team to effectively forecast and arrange sustainable pilot allocations and tasking.
  • Fleet management: ensure our drone and van fleets are maintained, fit for service and available to deliver flight schedules.
  • Team support: ensure flight crews have everything in place before deployment and high quality remote support during deployments.
  • Client interface: be the individual upon which clients rely to deliver drone inspection services according to their priorities.
  • Field delivery: You’ll embed and deploy with flight crews at times so that you have first hand experience and a deep understanding of operational pressures and what makes a team effective in the field.
What you’ll need
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills: proven ability to manage systems, teams and resources effectively balancing competing priorities and dependencies.
  • Effective listener and confident communicator: effectively communicate and build trust with team members, client contacts and stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinking: able to formulate an operational plan which balances and delivers on short, medium and long term objectives.
  • Flexible approach, adaptable to changing circumstances: if Plan A fails you already have a rapid transition to Plan B prepared.
  • Detail orientated and diligent: beginning from the high level strategy to the lowest level of execution; nothing falls between the cracks.
  • Motivated, self starting and team orientated: able to work effectively towards your goals both independently and in collaboration with other team members
  • Experience with fleet management, scheduling systems, team scheduling or operational coordination.
  • Decisive when presented with uncertain circumstances or incomplete information.
  • GVC qualification or the willingness to obtain.
  • UK driving licence and right to work in the UK.
