Job description

Are you an experienced Driver looking for casual work to fit in around your life with the flexibility to pick and choose the days and hours you work?

At Biocair, our Drivers are a truly vital part of our organisation. This is not just any driver role; it is one of the most crucial roles in our company where what you do will make a true impact on someone's life. It is something you can be proud to be associated with. It is not about dropping 200 parcels in one day; it's about ensuring you transport a select number of time-critical and temperature-sensitive consignments (whether medicines or a sample from a cancer patient) in a safe, careful, and timely manner whilst maintaining the highest levels of customer care. This is a busy and fast-paced role with customer care being at the centre of all you do.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring all the correct documentation is accurately completed and processed with the shipment.
  • Performing duties to maintain a clean, tidy, and safe warehouse, ensuring all materials are stored in the designated areas as well as ensuring fridges, freezers, and warm room temperatures are checked and remain within prescribed parameters and maintain accurate records thereof.
  • Reporting any shortfalls of packaging stock to the appropriate person to ensure minimal stock levels are always maintained along with the maintenance of all relevant storage logs to 100% accuracy.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of the vehicles as well as carrying out daily and weekly vehicle maintenance checks and performing simple maintenance tasks as required.
  • Building positive working relationships with other drivers, departments, and management to deliver excellent communication and customer service and working proactively to overcome problems and implement process improvements.

Our company values matter and guide all that we do each day. The successful candidate will be expected to operate in line with them as we strive to be the provider of choice for specialist logistics solutions to the global scientific community; based on the highest levels of care, expertise, and precision; enabling our customers to retain absolute focus on research and development.

In addition, you will demonstrate these key competencies:

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Must hold a current, full, Category B (or equivalent) driving license (maximum of 3 points).
  • Previous commercial van driving experience (Mercedes Sprinter MWB/LWB, Mercedes Vito, Maxus eDeliver9 or similar < 3.5T).
  • Confident driving a manual transmission.
  • Demonstrable experience of working well under time pressure as well as the ability to check and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Experience of working within a cold chain or time-sensitive multimodal freight forwarding or pharmaceutical industry (ideally in a logistics setting) is highly desirable.
  • Resilience, the ability to build strong working relationships, and be a true team player.

Please note this is a casual worker role so if you are looking for extra hours based around other commitments then this could be the role for you. Based at our Sawston Warehouse. The hours are Monday to Friday with shifts ranging between 04.00 and 18.00.

This is a UK based role and the right to live and work in the UK will need to be established during the recruitment process. Please note we are not currently a Home Office visa sponsorship licence holder.
