Our main operating centres are based in Esh Winning (Durham) and Great Heck (near Selby).

The Opportunity

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Driver Training Manager to lead our driver development and compliance efforts. This is a pivotal role ensuring the competence, safety, and legal compliance of our professional drivers, while supporting operational efficiency and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging inductions and training for new and agency drivers.
  • Conduct driver assessments and interviews during recruitment.
  • Manage the recruitment process for both permanent and agency drivers.
  • Investigate accidents and identify root causes.
  • Provide training on fuel economy, safety, and vehicle-specific operations (rigids, tippers, walking floors).
  • Use telematics data to coach and improve driver performance.
  • Oversee and support driver mentors/assessors.
  • Manage external training providers and outsourced training.
  • Monitor and manage tachograph infringements and WTD compliance.
  • Maintain accurate training records and manage the driver training matrix.
  • Deliver CPC training and manage associated documentation.
  • Conduct drug and alcohol testing, licence checks, and risk assessments.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience as a professional LGV driver (Category C+E).
  • Recognised driver trainer qualifications (e.g. RTITB, JAUPT).
  • Strong knowledge of UK transport laws, WTD, and driver hours.
  • Experience delivering in-house training and using telematics/TMS platforms.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and organisational skills.
  • CPC trainer qualification (desirable).
  • NEBOSH or IOSH Managing Safely (desirable).
  • Familiarity with FORS or DVSA Earned Recognition standards (desirable).
