Job summary

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated driver to support a range of hospital operations across the region. You will undertake waste collection, linen delivery, stores transport, and specimen delivery to clinics and GP surgeries. Occasional driving of the hospital courtesy bus and movement of equipment are also included in duties.

The role emphasizes strong communication, initiative, and commitment to exceptional patient and staff service within the NHS framework.

Qualifications

• GCSE grade 3/D or above or equivalent.
• Full clean driving licence required; licences issued after 01/01/1997 may need B+E, C1 and D1 as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Collect waste carts from collection points and transport to central compound area.
• Empty carts, wash collections, and distribute clean carts to appropriate areas.
• Transport sacks of dirty linen to Laundry and deliver clean linen to Trust buildings/areas.
• Deliver/collect stores, supplies, mail, and equipment across hospital sites.
• Deliver and collect samples, drugs (including isotopes), and prescriptions to clinics and GP surgeries in the region.
• Drive hospital courtesy bus when required to transport staff, patients and visitors.
• Deliver/collect medical notes and small items of furniture on or off site.
• Collect cages and transport to designated collection points.

Job description

We require a dedicated individual to work within a team and to carry out a variety of driving duties.

The duties comprise of site collections of waste Including waste compound management , laundry, supplies and specimen collections from local GPs/ hospitals and support COVID to patients in South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire and Lincolnshire.

We are looking for individuals who are a good communicators, with the ability to use their own initiative to support exceptional levels of customer service. Any applicants should have relevant experience of driving commercial vehicles and carrying out delivery duties.

Requirements

• Applicants should be educated to GCSE grade 3/D or above (or equivalent qualification/experience) and have a full clean driving licence. Licences issues after 01/01/1997 will require the following categories in addition to the standard licence - B+E, C1 and D1.

Responsibilities

• The collection of waste carts from collection points on the northern general site and transport to a central compound area. To empty the carts using the equipment provided, collection of carts for washing, distribution of clean carts to appropriate areas.
• The collection of sacks of dirty linen from Trust buildings /areas to Laundry.
• Delivery of sacks of clean linen to appropriate Trust buildings /areas.
• Delivery/ collection, of stores and supplies to all areas of the hospital sites.
• Collection and delivery of samples and drugs including isotopes, and delivery / collection of mail /supplies to / from doctor’s surgeries and various clinics in Sheffield and surrounding areas.
• To drive the hospital courtesy bus when required, transporting staff, patients and visitors.
• Delivery and collection of equipment and small items of furniture on and off site.
• Delivery and collection of medical notes.
• Collection of cages and transport to recognised collection points.
