Job description
Overview

Join Lancashire County Council as a Driver Attendant or Passenger Assistant to help ensure children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) get to school safely. You will transport passengers in a caring manner, helping them prepare for the journey, move to and from the vehicle, and use the required safety equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Assist passengers, support safe boarding and alighting, and ensure comfort during the journey.
  • Perform pre- and post-journey safety checks and operate required safety equipment.
  • Collaborate with the school and transport teams to support pupils’ needs.
Working patterns

Various patterns are available, ranging from 15 to 30 hours per week. Roles are primarily term-time only, with a limited number of 52-week positions and casual roles. Driver Attendants and Passenger Assistants work split shifts with hours focused around school start and finish times. Teams are based across Lancashire with opportunities to join in:

  • Lancaster and Morecambe
  • Chorley / West Lancashire
  • Preston / South Ribble
  • Fylde and Wyre
  • East (Burnley and surrounding areas)

Interview and start timelines

After completing your application, a member of our team will contact you to book a place at our drop-in interview days, held in June at your local depot. The majority of roles are due to commence in November 2025 and January 2026.
