Job description

WORK, LIVE & PLAY IN AORAKI/MOUNT COOK NATIONAL PARK

We're looking for motivated Driver Guides who are passionate about providing memorable experiences for our visitors. Candidates should be proactive in learning about the native flora and fauna, and excited to have Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park as their playground.

Our Driver Guides transport guests on excursions in and around the Hooker and Tasman Valleys, primarily using buses and 4-wheel drive vehicles. Prior guiding and professional off-road driving experience are essential.

Guests stay with us at the Hermitage because of the location, views, and service. Our team values the remote lifestyle, stunning scenery, and being part of a close-knit community.

What Your Day Will Look Like

Driver Guides are responsible for transporting guests between the hotel and activity sites, often being the first and last point of contact. Building rapport quickly is vital. Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with the activities team to create exceptional visitor experiences.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the flora, fauna, and natural history of the park.
  • Check-in guests, assess their needs, and ensure timely departure.
  • Ensure safe transportation and vehicle maintenance.
  • Conduct guided off-road tours through valleys and points of interest.
  • Perform pre-departure checks and adapt to weather conditions.
  • Deliver safe, professional, and compliant service according to Land Transport New Zealand (LTNZ) rules.
  • Understand health & safety procedures, including accident and emergency protocols.
To Be Successful, You Will Need
  • A full, clean NZ driver’s license and proven driving experience.
  • A Class 2/4 license and P endorsement.
  • Strong public speaking and communication skills.
  • A love for the outdoors, outgoing personality, and good fitness.
  • A strong sense of responsibility, commitment, and reliability.
Further Information
  • Positions include subsidised accommodation at the Hermitage, with Wi-Fi and power. Living onsite in Aoraki/Mt Cook Village is required due to the remote location.
  • Immediate availability is preferred.
