Job summary

Balfour Beatty Living Places is seeking a reliable Drainage/Surfacing Operative to join a two-person team in Lincolnshire. You will contribute to drainage, footway construction, and highway improvement projects, while maintaining safety, quality and customer service standards.

Ideally you have experience in drainage, surfacing or civil engineering, a full UK driving licence and a proactive, collaborative approach to work outdoors on varying shifts.

Qualifications

  • Experience in drainage, surfacing, highways or civil engineering.
  • Ability to interpret supplied information and set out lines and levels for drainage and kerbing works.
  • Proactive, capable of working on your own while supporting colleagues.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Strong commitment to health, safety and quality standards.
  • Willingness to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver projects across Lincolnshire as part of a two‑person drainage and surfacing team.
  • Footway construction and highway improvement works.
  • Install kerbs, drainage systems, soakaways and highway gullies.
  • Complete reinstatement works to highways and footways after maintenance activities.
  • Construct tactile crossings and large manhole chambers.
  • Lay base and wearing course asphalt/tarmac to a high standard.
  • Set out lines and levels for kerbing and drainage works from drawings.
  • Work safely and efficiently to deliver projects on time and to specification.
  • Support occasional out‑of‑hours activities when required.

About the role

Balfour Beatty Living Places is looking for a skilled and motivated Drainage/Surfacing Operative to join our team in Lincolnshire. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a variety of highway maintenance and improvement projects that help keep local communities connected and moving safely.

As part of a dedicated two-person drainage and surfacing team, you will support the delivery of essential infrastructure works across the county. Working in a hands‑on role, you will contribute to the construction, maintenance and improvement of highways, footways and drainage systems whilst maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and customer service.

What you'll be doing
  • Working as part of a two-person drainage and surfacing team delivering projects across Lincolnshire.
  • Carrying out footway construction and highway improvement works.
  • Installing kerbs, drainage systems, soakaways and highway gullies.
  • Completing reinstatement works to highways and footways following maintenance activities.

  • Laying both base and wearing course asphalt/tarmac to a high standard.
  • Setting out lines and levels for kerbing and drainage works using supplied information and drawings.
