Job summary

Balfour Beatty Living Places in Lincolnshire is seeking a Drainage/Surfacing Operative to support highway maintenance and improvement projects across the county.

You will work in a two-person team, delivering drainage and surfacing tasks, installation of kerbs, drainage systems, soakaways and gullies, and reinstatement work to highways and footways. A proactive, safety-conscious approach is essential.

Qualifications

  • Experience in drainage, surfacing, highways or civil engineering.
  • Proven experience laying base and wearing course asphalt.
  • Ability to interpret information and set out lines and levels.
  • Proactive, able to work on your own initiative.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Strong commitment to health, safety and quality standards.
  • Excellent teamwork and customer-focused attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver projects as part of a two-person drainage and surfacing team across Lincolnshire.
  • Carry out footway construction and highway improvement works.
  • Install kerbs, drainage systems, soakaways and gullies.
  • Complete reinstatement works to highways and footways.
  • Construct tactile crossings and install large manhole chambers.
  • Lay base and wearing course asphalt/tarmac to a high standard.
  • Set out lines and levels for kerbing and drainage works from drawings.
  • Work safely and efficiently to meet timelines and specifications.
  • Support occasional out-of-hours activities when required.

About the role

Balfour Beatty Living Places is looking for a skilled and motivated Drainage/Surfacing Operative to join our team in Lincolnshire. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a variety of highway maintenance and improvement projects that help keep local communities connected and moving safely.

As part of a dedicated two-person drainage and surfacing team, you will support the delivery of essential infrastructure works across the county. Working in a hands‑on role, you will contribute to the construction, maintenance and improvement of highways, footways and drainage systems whilst maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and customer service.

What you'll be doing
  • Working as part of a two-person drainage and surfacing team delivering projects across Lincolnshire.
  • Carrying out footway construction and highway improvement works.
  • Installing kerbs, drainage systems, soakaways and highway gullies.
  • Completing reinstatement works to highways and footways following maintenance activities.
  • Constructing tactile crossings and installing large manhole chambers.
  • Laying both base and wearing course asphalt/tarmac to a high standard.
  • Setting out lines and levels for kerbing and drainage works using supplied information and drawings.
  • Working safely and efficiently to deliver projects on time and to specification.
  • Supporting occasional out-of-hours activities when required to meet operational needs.
