Job summary

PSS Utilities Ltd is seeking a Drainage Operative to support on-site works, ensuring safety, compliance and high-quality workmanship across drainage projects. You will assist with excavation, installation and maintenance, work with the Team Leader on levels and alignments, and help manage underground services while documenting activities for site records.

• Basic experience in drainage or civils construction.
• CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).
• Good understanding of health and safety practices on construction sites.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Good IT skills including ability to use mobile devices such as Mobile Phones & PDA’s
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team.
• Willingness to travel to various sites and work flexible hours.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Attend Stand Downs, Team Briefs, Toolbox Talks and required training.
• Assist with excavation, installation, repair and maintenance of drainage systems.
• Lay drainage pipes, chambers, gullies and fittings.
• Support with trenching, bedding, backfilling and reinstatement.
• Assist with level checks, gradients and alignment.
• Safely locate and avoid existing underground services.
• Report defects or safety concerns to the Team Leader.
• Operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment as trained.
• Maintain a clean, safe working environment and dispose of waste.
• Complete site records and communicate professionally with customers.

Job description

DrainageOperatives are to assist in the delivery of on-site project works to a safe, compliant and to a high standard of workmanship. You will play a vital role in supporting the operational activities necessary for the delivery of utility services to our customers.

The operative will be responsible to theLead Operative

• To attend and actively participate in Stand Downs, Team Briefs, Toolbox Talks and required training courses.
• Assist with the excavation, installation, repair and maintenance of surface water, foul water and highway drainage systems.
• Lay drainage pipes, chambers, gullies, catch pits and associated fittings in accordance with drawings, specifications and manufacturer requirements, under guidance.
• Assist with trench support systems and ensure excavations are maintained in a safe condition.
• Carry out pipe bedding, backfilling, compaction and reinstatement activities to required specifications.
• Support the Team Leader with drainage installation activities, including checking levels, gradients and alignment.
• Safely locate and work around existing underground services in accordance with permit, utility avoidance and safe digging procedures.
• Identify and promptly report defects, damage, safety concerns, quality issues or unforeseen site conditions to the Team Leader.
• Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, plant and machinery where trained, authorised and competent to do so.
• Assist with over-pumping, flow management and traffic management activities where trained and authorised.
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment, ensuring waste materials are handled and disposed of in accordance with company and environmental requirements.
• Accurately complete work records, photographs and other site documentation as required.
• Represent the company professionally when dealing with customers, clients and members of the public.

Qualifications

About you:

Basicexperience in drainage or civils construction.

CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).
