As a Drainage Engineer / Flood Risk Consultant…

You will contribute to the assessment, design and delivery of drainage and flood risk solutions across major residential, mixed-use and commercial developments. Working alongside colleagues and clients, you'll help overcome site constraints, support planning and development proposals, and deliver practical, sustainable solutions throughout the development lifecycle.

  • Preparing drainage strategies and designing surface water and foul drainage systems for residential and commercial developments.
  • Undertaking Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs) and assessing flood risk from sources including rivers, surface water, groundwater and tidal flooding.
  • Developing sustainable drainage solutions (SuDS), including attenuation, flow control and other appropriate drainage features.
  • Undertaking hydrological assessments and hydraulic modelling to support flood risk assessments, development planning and mitigation proposals, where relevant to your experience.
  • Preparing technical reports, calculations, drawings and supporting documentation for planning applications and technical approvals.
  • Identifying site constraints and developing practical solutions to drainage and flood risk challenges.
  • Liaising with clients, local authorities, Lead Local Flood Authorities (LLFAs), the Environment Agency and water companies.
  • Coordinating with colleagues across Civil Engineering, Land, Development & Communities and other disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Supporting projects from early-stage site appraisal and planning through to detailed design and technical approvals.
  • Using relevant software such as AutoCAD, MicroDrainage, InfoDrainage, Causeway Flow, TUFLOW or HEC-RAS, depending on your area of specialism.
What do we look for?
  • A relevant qualification in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, Geography or a related discipline.
  • Experience in drainage engineering, flood risk, hydrology or a related technical field.
  • Exposure to residential, commercial, mixed-use or wider development infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in one or more relevant areas, such as drainage design, drainage strategies, Flood Risk Assessments, SuDS or hydraulic modelling.
  • A genuine interest in drainage, flood risk and sustainable development, with a desire to develop your technical expertise.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and organisational skills, with the ability to work effectively across disciplines and with clients.
  • A desire to achieve Chartered status, where relevant to your professional pathway.
