Job summary

Carrington West recruits an experienced Drainage Engineer for a Local Authority Drainage and Coastal Defence team in North Lincolnshire. The role focuses on investigation, design and delivery of flood-risk, highway drainage and coastal-defence schemes, with an initial 6-month contract and potential extension.

The successful candidate will manage projects from inception to completion, supervise contractors, produce drawings and reports, and liaise with agencies and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Experience delivering drainage, flood-risk or coastal-defence schemes.
  • Proven ability to manage projects from inception to completion.
  • Knowledge of flood-risk legislation and health and safety requirements.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and technical drawing interpretation.
  • Current driving licence and access to transport.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, procure and supervise drainage, flood-alleviation and coastal-defence schemes.
  • Manage projects from initial investigation through to construction and completion.
  • Investigate flooding incidents and prepare Section 19 reports.
  • Manage contractors undertaking CCTV surveys and repairs.
  • Produce technical drawings, reports and risk assessments.
  • Monitor project programmes, budgets, QA and safety.
  • Liaise with Environment Agency and other stakeholders.
  • Provide technical advice to residents and businesses.
  • Support flooding response and pollution incidents when required.

Location: North Lincolnshire

Rate: £45-£55 per hour (Umbrella PAYE)

Contract: Initial 6-month contract with a strong likelihood of extension

Working Arrangements: 2-3 days per week in the area, with additional site attendance when required

Exciting Opportunity for a Drainage Engineer in North Lincolnshire

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Drainage Engineer to join a Local Authority Drainage and Coastal Defence team. The role will focus on the investigation, design and delivery of flood-risk, highway drainage and coastal-defence schemes across the area.

You will support the council in fulfilling its responsibilities as a Lead Local Flood Authority, Coastal Protection Authority and Highway Authority, while helping to deliver a multi-million-pound capital programme.

The main duties of the Drainage Engineer include:
  • Planning, designing, procuring and supervising drainage, flood-alleviation and coastal-defence schemes.
  • Managing projects from initial investigation through to construction and completion.
  • Investigating property and highway flooding incidents and preparing Section 19 reports.
  • Managing contractors undertaking CCTV surveys, high-pressure jetting and civil engineering repairs.
  • Producing technical drawings, reports, specifications, risk assessments and project documentation.
  • Monitoring project programmes, budgets, quality and health and safety compliance.
  • Liaising with the Environment Agency, Internal Drainage Boards, Anglian Water, contractors and internal council teams.
  • Providing technical advice to residents, businesses, landowners and other stakeholders.
  • Supporting the response to flooding events and pollution incidents when required.
The Drainage Engineer will have key experience in:
  • Delivering drainage, flood-risk management, highway drainage or coastal-defence schemes.
  • Managing engineering projects and contractors from inception through to completion.
  • Undertaking flood investigations, asset management, data collection and engineering design.
  • Producing and interpreting technical drawings, reports and specifications.
  • Knowledge of flood-risk legislation, health and safety requirements, procurement and contract management.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Strong stakeholder-management, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • A minimum Level 5 qualification in Civil Engineering, Highways, Transportation, Flood-Risk Management or a related discipline.
  • A current driving licence and access to your own transport.
  • Previous Local Authority highways or drainage experience would be advantageous.
