AtkinsRéalis provides drainage design services to Highway, Rail, Private Developer, Energy and Water markets with some of our key clients being HS2, Highways England and Network Rail along with many of the UK’s water companies. Due to practice expansion, we require a Drainage Design Specialist to join our teams operating from across the UK. We are looking for a strong collaborator, capable of supporting teams and delivering on remote projects as part of our national Practice.

The Individual:

The successful candidate shall demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of the drainage sector, excellent technical skills and have a proven track record of business development, client management, project management and line management. You will be required to undertake a key role in the design of drainage infrastructure, transportation, and private developer projects, with emphasis on highway drainage and development drainage including SuDS. As well as delivering the drainage design, you will support the leadership and development of our drainage design capability.

The successful candidate should be degree qualified, have appropriate professional qualifications, and have a broad range of experience in:

1. Leading the design of drainage from concept to detailed design and construction, as stand-alone projects or as part of larger multi-disciplinary schemes.
2. Promoting digital solutions in drainage design, including full integration within the BIM environment.
3. Overseeing and reviewing drainage designs, models, calculations, and drawings to relevant standards, providing technical assurance.
4. Managing drainage design tasks and ensuring delivery aligns with programme and budget.
5. Leading and encouraging the technical development of graduates and technicians.
6. Ensuring compliance with company standards, policies, and procedures related to quality, safety, and environment.
7. Developing stakeholder relationships to support drainage design and consent processes.
8. Enhancing drainage design capability within the local team.
9. Leading drainage designs and providing technical assurance across our Global Design Centre.
10. Championing drainage within multidisciplinary projects.
11. Mentoring and supporting engineers, graduates, and technicians in drainage design.
12. Contributing to bid preparations, including technical responses, fee proposals, and risk assessments.

Responsibilities:

The role involves responsibilities related to business performance, resilience, and reputation, contributing to business strategy implementation. Key responsibilities include:

• Technical Duties: Leading projects to deliver high-quality outcomes, acting as Project Director or Programme/Framework Manager as needed, encouraging best practice, and promoting staff development.
• Business Duties: Promoting team integration, ensuring compliance with standards, developing client relationships, fostering digital innovation, and supporting bid processes to secure work and mitigate risks.
