Job summary

VSL International Ltd., part of Bouygues Construction, seeks a Draftsman/CAD Technician in the UK (London or Birmingham). You will produce accurate 2D/3D drawings for civil, structural, and architectural elements to support construction and ensure compliance with specs.

Work closely with Technical Managers, Designers, Engineers and Site Teams to deliver drawings on time, maintain drawing registers, and uphold company standards across multidisciplinary projects.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related discipline.
• Proven experience as Draftsman/CAD Technician in construction or infrastructure.
• Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD standards and drawing practices.

Responsibilities

• Produce detailed 2D and 3D drawings for civil, structural, and architectural works.
• Develop temporary works fabrication and construction sequence drawings.
• Coordinate with managers, designers, engineers, and site teams to ensure accuracy.

Project

At VSL, our Recurring Business unit is supporting the growth of major infrastructure and construction projects and is looking to appoint an experienced Draftsman / CAD Technician to join the team in either London or Birmingham.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong and detail-oriented professional to work on complex construction schemes, producing high-quality technical drawings and supporting project delivery teams across multiple disciplines.

Role Overview

The Draftsman / CAD Technician will be responsible for producing accurate and detailed technical drawings to support construction and engineering activities across a range of civil, structural, and architectural projects.

The role will work closely with Technical Managers, Designers, Engineers, and Site Teams to ensure drawings are delivered in line with project specifications, construction requirements, and company standards.

Main Responsibilities

Technical Drawing & Design

• Prepare detailed 2D and 3D drawings for construction works, including civil, structural, and architectural elements
• Develop and update temporary works fabrication drawings, construction sequence drawings, and method drawings in line with project requirements
• Interpret and convert design concepts, sketches, and technical specifications into accurate construction drawings
• Ensure all drawings comply with project specifications, company standards, and regulatory requirements

Coordination & Project Support

• Coordinate closely with Technical Managers, Designers, Engineers, and Site Teams to ensure technical accuracy and constructability
• Support project teams by producing and updating drawings for ongoing site and construction activities
• Maintain drawing registers, revisions, and document control systems in accordance with project procedures

Compliance & Standards

• Ensure drawings and technical documentation are produced in line with industry standards and detailing best practices
• Assist with maintaining consistency and quality across all project deliverables

Candidate Profile

Education & Experience

• Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related discipline
• Proven experience working as a Draftsman / CAD Technician within construction, infrastructure, or engineering projects

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D & 3D, Rhino, and Grasshopper is essential
• Experience with Tekla, Autodesk Inventor, or similar software would be advantageous
• Strong understanding of construction drawings, detailing practices, and industry standards

• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project environments and manage multiple priorities
