Job description

This is a site-based role at Worthing, within the Global Manufacturing Science & Technology (MSAT) organisation.

As the successful role-holder, you will be responsible for developing, scaling up, commercialising, and troubleshooting downstream processes for the extraction and purification of small and large molecule APIs, intermediates, and enzymes from diverse engineered biology inputs.

In this role, you will:

  1. Apply scientific principles in a laboratory environment to develop downstream process unit operations to meet project deliverables.
  2. Assess business cases and support the introduction of new processes and technologies to achieve project goals with a strong focus on manufacturability, sustainability, and quality.
  3. Work collaboratively with analytical, cell line development, and upstream teams.
  4. Manage the scale-up and technology transfer of downstream processes to pilot plant and commercial manufacturing facilities.
  5. Analyze data generated in experimental work and present conclusions and recommendations to project teams and stakeholders across R&D and Global Supply Chain.
  6. Adhere to and help maintain the highest levels of safety and good lab practice across the department.

We are looking for professionals with these required skills:

  • Graduate qualification in Chemical or Biochemical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • An understanding of safe and effective laboratory working.
  • Ability to innovate and collaborate, working independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Excellent organizational skills - able to plan, execute, and troubleshoot multiple tasks within the laboratory and office environment.
  • Ability to proactively generate and critically review data for problem solving.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus but not required:

  • Previous experience in the pharmaceutical industry and/or process development.
