NSS supports customers to deliver their services more efficiently and effectively and we offer shared services on a national scale using best-in-class systems and standards. Our priority is always the same – to improve the health and well-being of the people of Scotland. We do this by working in partnership with colleagues across Health and Social Care to deliver fit for purpose solutions and systems, delivering high quality services that help our stakeholders to free up resources so they can be re-invested into essential services.

The Post:

As a major division within the NHS National Services Scotland, the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) plays a vital role not only in the health of the people of Scotland but also on an international scale – through our leading position in new product development, biomedical research and donor services. Our goal is to maintain the highest standards to patient care whilst remaining internationally competitive.

We are looking for Donor Carer Venepuncturists to join our existing teams who provide a high standard of care to our donors.

The Candidate:

This post involves set up of community donation sessions with a requirement to pull/push cages or trolleys of equipment without mechanical aid of up to 60kg – 2 people. Full training is provided in all aspects of the role.

Knowledge of health care or other customer focused environments is essential. Standard keyboard skills are essential as are good communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme Disclosure Scotland check. Any candidate who has lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency. Details of how to apply for, or to update, PVG Scheme membership/Disclosure will be supplied to successful candidates.

Location and Working Pattern:

The post is based within the Donor Services Blood Collection Team which is based in Edinburgh; however extensive travel throughout the region of South East of Scotland is required. The work pattern for the post is Monday to Sunday, 28 hours per week. You must be flexible, and willing to work variable hours. Hours will include public holidays, Sundays and regular late evenings.

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NSS.
