Job Summary

It takes all types of people to deliver the kind of service that saves and improves lives. At NHS Blood and Transplant, you’ll join a team of more than 6,000 people who are making a genuine difference to communities, families, friends, relatives and more across the UK.

Main duties of the job

This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to learn hands-on skills in healthcare and take their first steps into a professional career with the NHS. You’ll be fully trained in how to take blood from our donors, and you’ll be their first point of care during their time with us.

You’ll also make sure we keep accurate records of donor sessions, while managing the safe handling of blood products, needles and other medical equipment.

As part of a true multi-disciplinary team, you’ll work variable hours and days including evenings, weekends and bank holidays - without night shifts. You’ll also be working alongside medical professionals, which means you’ll discover more autonomy and responsibility than equivalent roles elsewhere in the NHS.

Initially you’ll be based on our mobile team, but will soon transfer to our brand-new Blood Donation Centre in Brighton.

About you

You don’t need experience in Healthcare – we’ll build your skills with training. You should be ready to upskill yourself and complete the Skills for Health Care Certificate. We’ll also be helping you get to grips with our technology and giving you digital training. You’ll need a decent standard of literacy and numeracy, plus plenty of drive for learning.

Whatever your background, you’ll need to be good with people and used to dealing with the public. It’s all about giving great service and taking pride in your skills.

Please view the attached recruitment profile which is a summary of the detailed Job Description and Person Specification for the full personal attributes we require for the role. You will need to demonstrate these throughout the recruitment process.
