Solar Careers UK, a division of Solar Energy UK, represents over 425 solar businesses specializing in high-quality solar installations for domestic, commercial, and utility-scale clients. We are seeking to recruit full-time, permanent installation teams from across the UK.

Designer Responsibilities:
- Liaise with clients to determine the most suitable solar PV system for their needs.
- Conduct site assessments, in person or remotely, to evaluate installation feasibility.
- Assess site conditions for wiring and module placement.
- Gather information for system design considerations.
- Design system layout to optimize solar exposure and efficiency.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and team members for project success.
- Ensure designs comply with regulations, industry guidance, and best practices.
- Design AC and DC wiring systems, including integration with secondary batteries.
- Estimate system performance and self-consumption with and without battery storage.
Installer Responsibilities:
- Install solar PV systems according to design specifications and regulations.
- Assemble and install modules, mounting kits, inverters, batteries, and wiring.
- Follow health and safety regulations.
- Connect electrical wiring and perform system commissioning.
- Troubleshoot and resolve installation issues.
- Complete documentation, including test reports.
- Coordinate with project teams and liaise with clients.
- Educate clients on system operation and maintenance.
- Perform maintenance and repairs as needed.
Additional Responsibilities (may be delegated):
- Ensure installation adherence to design and safety standards.
- Assemble and install modules and support structures.
- Complete required documentation.
Skills:
- Expertise in solar installation and electrical storage systems.
- Strong mechanical skills and technical knowledge of PV systems.
- Adherence to safety protocols.
- Ability to interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of regulations and industry standards.
- Proficiency with tools, testing equipment, and design software.
- Physical ability to perform demanding tasks and work at heights.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience as an electrician or electrical operative.
Minimum Requirements:
For New Entrants:
- GCSEs or equivalent in Maths and English (as part of apprenticeship).
- Completion of recognized apprenticeship or vocational training (see EAS Qualifications Guide).
- Valid UK electrician’s certification (e.g., Level 3 NVQ in Electrical Installation).
Upskilling candidates:
- Same as above plus ECS electricians Gold Card or equivalent qualifications, industry experience, and relevant solar PV qualifications listed in the specified awarding organizations.
