Overview

Domestic Assistant – Staff Accommodation, Department Hotel Services / Staff Accommodation, Band 2 - pro rata. Hours: 25 per week (Monday to Friday, 9am–2pm). All MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working.

Responsibilities
  • Support the cleaning and upkeep of on-site and off-site staff accommodation (not patient areas) in domestic house and flat type environments.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in communal bathrooms, kitchens, stairs, halls and landings (many properties have up to three storeys; role involves frequent stair climbing).
  • Daily cleaning of cookers and communal areas; exit cleans when tenants vacate rooms; emptying bins; may involve dealing with unpleasant waste such as food remnants and maggots.
  • Enter individual bedrooms with discretion, professionalism and respect for residents’ personal space and belongings.
  • Work in a customer-facing environment where tenants may be present during cleaning.
  • Full training; may work as part of a team or lone working depending on daily schedule.

  • Physically fit and comfortable performing manual tasks including stair climbing, lifting bins, and using cleaning equipment.
  • Willing to work across multiple staff accommodation sites on hospital grounds.
  • Familiar with COSHH and safe use of cleaning chemicals (training will be provided). Experience in domestic or accommodation-based cleaning is desirable but not essential.

Standards and duties
  • Ensure work schedules, daily cleaning and coverage programmes are completed to NHS Standards and Departmental Procedures/Work Instructions.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally and work well within a small team.
  • Maintain a high standard of cleaning to prevent cross-infection; identify any areas of concern to the line manager.
  • Some heavy lifting will be required.
  • Full awareness and working knowledge of COSHH procedures for cleaning materials; ensure correct action is applied when using chemicals.
  • Ensure correct PPE is used and report missing or damaged PPE to the line manager/supervisor.
  • Use of security systems; highlight health & safety and security concerns to the line manager as soon as observed.
  • Use and maintenance of equipment; report faults to the line manager/supervisor.
  • Maintain and improve quality in line with the Trust’s standards and guidelines.
  • Report incidents or near misses to the line manager.
  • Undertake training and development as required (e.g., BICS, NVQ and departmental training).
