Job summary

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a cleaner to join its facilities team. You will maintain high standards of cleanliness in both clinical and non-clinical areas, contributing to patient safety and comfort.

The role involves following schedules, using cleaning equipment correctly, disposing of waste per policy, and supporting infection control through COSHH awareness.

Responsibilities

• Provide a high standard of cleaning in clinical and non-clinical areas, following agreed schedules and procedures.
• Operate cleaning equipment and machinery in line with manufacturers' instructions.
• Disposal of waste according to Trust policy.
• Undertake deep cleaning and isolation cleans following national guidelines.
• Support infection prevention by maintaining cleanliness and COSHH awareness.

Job description

• To provide a high standard of cleaning within clinical and non-clinical areas reducing the risk of infections by following agreed work schedules, methods and procedures in accordance with the National Standards of Cleanliness.
• Operating cleaning equipment, machinery in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
• Disposal of waste in accordance with the Trust Waste Policy.
• Accurate completion of all required documentation to support specific service processes , eg Terminal cleans., To perform cleaning and other associated task in any ward, department, operating theatre, laboratory, corridor, catering area, office or residential accommodation as may be required and shall include all or any of the under mentioned tasks, which may include working as a team member.
• To ensure the highest possible standard of cleanliness is achieved and complying with the National Standards of Cleanliness, and the local Infection Control Policy within given areas to minimise the risk of cross infection for staff, patients and members of the public within Trust premises.
• Undertake deep clean/isolation cleans following national and local guidelines.
• Understanding of infection control in relation to cleanliness
• Understanding of Health and Safety
• Knowledge of COSHH, Good communication skills, must be able to communicate with other members of Trust staff
• Good writing skills
