Job description

DOG WARDEN

Location: Based from our kennels in Baldock, Hertfordshire

Salary rate circa: £26k - £30k

Roles: FULL TIME Requirement for shift patterns

You will be required to cover night shifts, weekends & Bank holidays. This new role is due to the expansion of our Animal Control Service to Council Clients and an opportunity to enhance our long-serving team. Our service is delivered from Monday to Sunday.

Main Duties:
  1. Attend sites in specialised vehicles from our fleet and collect found stray dogs from finders and either return them to owners or transfer them to a safe place using approved handling methods.
  2. Maintain our modern dog-holding facility and provide onward transfer of dogs to licensed boarding kennels.
  3. Collect dogs from kennels and deliver them back to their owners.
  4. Promote responsible dog ownership, noting we operate a non-destruct policy.
Qualifications:
Key Skills:
  1. Valid, full, UK driving licence
  2. Good basic education and ability to maintain written and electronic records
  3. Ability to communicate professionally & courteously with members of the public
  4. Ability to work independently
  5. Basic IT skills required
  6. Caring and practical approach to dog handling, and ideally previous relevant experience working with dogs.
  7. Adequate physical fitness and confidence to handle animals
  8. Reliable, self-motivated and well-organised
  9. Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances and solve problems as they arise
  10. Flexible in availability to cover shifts due to emergencies and for sickness/holidays
Key Terms:
  1. A dedicated company vehicle will be provided for full-time employees.
  2. Overtime is paid for any approved hours worked in addition to guaranteed minimum work hours.
  3. You must be prepared to undergo a DBS check, Driving Licence and Right to Work checks. 2 references are also required.
  4. You will be required to wear a uniform.
