Is Becoming a Dog Grooming Instructor the Right Move for You?
If you're an experienced dog groomer looking for a new challenge, Upper Hound has an exciting opportunity for you! We're searching for a passionate and skilled individual to join our team as a Dog Grooming Instructor.
Becoming a dog grooming instructor is a fulfilling and respected career that allows you to share your expertise with others who are eager to learn. If you're wondering whether teaching is the right step for you, here's what the role at Upper Hound involves and how you can qualify.
As a Dog Grooming Instructor at Upper Hound, you'll use your industry knowledge to guide the next generation of groomers towards their qualifications. Your role will include:
To be successful as a Dog Grooming Instructor at Upper Hound, you should possess the qualities of a skilled groomer: comfort in handling dogs, physical capability, and confidence in supervising others. Additionally, you should be an inspiring communicator, able to engage and motivate students from various backgrounds.
Ideal candidates will be qualified dog groomers, holding a City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming, and preferably a teaching qualification like the Level 3 Award in Education and Training.
While formal teaching experience is beneficial, it's not essential. Experience in training, coaching, or mentoring—whether through volunteer work or in a professional setting—is highly valued. You'll also need a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check before starting your teaching role.
At Upper Hound, we understand that a teaching qualification is not always a prerequisite. We value experience and passion, and we’re open to discussing opportunities for professional development, including funding your teaching qualification while you work with us.
As you gain experience, you could advance to senior roles within Upper Hound, such as department head, assessor, examiner, or verifier. There’s also potential to develop your own textbooks, learning materials, or online courses.
If you're passionate about dog grooming and teaching, and can travel to Farnborough, we would love to hear from you. This is a permanent role with growth opportunities for the right candidate.
