Job summary

Trafigura is seeking an Applied AI Engineer to grow the Document AI platform, building robust, production-ready AI solutions for a document-intensive commodities trading environment. You will work hands-on as an Individual Contributor, delivering end-to-end AI features that automate complex workflows and unlock actionable insights.

Qualifications

• 5-8+ years of experience building production AI/ML systems.
• Proficient in Python with Pydantic, FastAPI, asyncio, and type safety.
• Experience with modern AI frameworks; preference for Pydantic AI.
• Production experience with human-in-the-loop systems and AI monitoring.
• Strong fundamentals in AI/ML evaluation frameworks.
• Experience building agentic systems including MCP, tool calling, memory systems, vector stores, guardrails.
• Strong understanding of CI/CD, IaC, and containerisation.
• Practical cloud experience; preference for AWS.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Python-based AI applications.
• Build and maintain document workflows using LLMs and NLP.
• Debug model performance issues, handle edge cases, and optimize reliability.
• Write tests and implement monitoring for AI/ML systems.
• Prototype new features, evaluate them, and push to production.
• Participate in code reviews and architecture discussions.
• Communicate requirements to production teams and stakeholders.
