Job description

As the Doctoral Policy Manager you will be responsible for creating the procedures for a new set of academic milestones for all Postgraduate Researchers (PGR) at the University of Bath. You'll have the chance to work with diverse groups of experts and stakeholders across the university and use your organisational skills to support new initiatives that set the foundation for a positive research culture.

About the role

We have recently undertaken a major consultation and designed a new set of academic milestones which will support PGRs through a modern doctoral journey, ensure academic rigor at all stages and set the foundation for a positive research culture.

This role will take the ideas for the milestones and work with colleagues across the university to design procedures which are effective and efficient, allowing for information to flow to those who need it in a timely manner and for decisions to be made quickly. This will involve creating the procedures, writing polices and regulations as required and ensuring their approval at the relevant committees and developing guidance materials for all stakeholders.

You will

  • be working closely with colleagues in the Doctoral College, Strategic Projects Office, and Academic Registry as well as engaging regularly with senior stakeholders across the university.
  • need to consult with the PGR and academic population as you create the new processes and support the communication of any changes.
  • be part of the wider Doctoral College and will work collaboratively across the 4 teams (Recruitment and Admissions, PhD Programmes, Professional Doctorate Programmes and Doctoral Development and Engagement).

About you

We are looking for someone who:

  • has experience of developing new procedures and policies
  • has experience of securing approval for polices though complex governance structures
  • is excellent at organisation and great at keeping multiple activities on track
  • is able to take initiative and drive forward positive change
  • is motivated by the idea of making a positive difference to the development of postgraduate researchers

Knowledge of the higher education sector is essential, and knowledge of the doctoral journey desirable.
