We are looking for an experienced and driven Divisional Head of Agricultural and Construction Sales to join our leadership team at our Head Office in Maldon, Essex.

Role Purpose:

Reporting to our Sales Director, you will be responsible for the management and efficient operation of Ernest Doe and Sons Ltd Agricultural and Construction sales business. You will attend monthly senior management meetings as part of the general manager and director team.

The role focus will be on driving and supporting a large sales operation to seek and deliver sales of new and used Agricultural machinery to include Tractors, Telehandlers, Combines, Big Balers, cultivation equipment, trailers, hedge cutters etc from our key suppliers CNH, Lemken, Shelbourne Reynolds, Maschio, Richard Western to name but a few. In addition, holding the responsibility for negotiating terms, stock holding and marketing of all our agricultural wholegood brands.

You would be expected to work with our CNH Brand Managers, along with Branch Managers and 30 Agricultural and Construction Area Sales Managers, from our 21 branches, so as to identify and target customers with the end result focused on increasing our CNH market shares and indeed the shares of all our suppliers, plus making sure customer satisfaction is maintained and indeed enhanced.

You will also work with our successful construction sales team, and leading brands such as Hyundai, Thwaites, Bomag, and Atlas Copco. To achieve this a close working relationship with our service and parts departments must be maintained. During the harvest period you would also oversee a demonstration team manager acting as a backstop to make sure customer issues are dealt with by our team, including managing the release and return of loan machines for key customers.

The successful applicant will be expected to uphold and further the company’s strong reputation for reliable, honest, and effective sales and aftersales.

  • Proven sales and preferably marketing / management experience.
  • An ability to identify and deliver on objectives that drive the business forward.
  • Sound knowledge of the Agricultural trade and ideally will have been involved in selling agricultural equipment.
  • An ability to work under pressure and multi task in a large scale, complex multi-franchise environment.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and effectively to all levels of the business, maintaining and upholding company standards.
  • Excellent customer relationship skills, whether face to face, over the telephone, by e-mail or any other acceptable method.
  • Be able to build long lasting customer relationships with large users and key customers.
  • The ability to recognize and implement opportunities into the business.
  • Be able to negotiate terms and stocking commitments with suppliers to adhere to the company’s policies.
  • To be comfortable analysing numbers and identifying trends from data using pivot tables and other mechanisms.
  • Strong and up-to-date IT skills to include use of Microsoft 365 and preferably experience with ERP and CRM systems.
  • A high level of discretion and confidentiality at all times.
  • To be able to mediate and compromise within a team, working closely with other departments within the business to further the overall performance of the company.
  • To work with Senior Management up to Board / Shareholder level
  • Be able to confidently present to an audience (large or small) so as to deliver the company’s message.
  • To be self-motivated and able to work under own initiative.
  • Strong leadership skills and to be able to act quickly and decisively.
  • To be accountable for your own decisions.

Additional Information:

  • Permanent, full-time contract
