Job summary

East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust is issuing a role to support the Head of Financial Management and Deputy Divisional Finance Managers in delivering robust management accounting across divisions.

You will help develop accurate monthly budget information, advise budget managers, and assist with training, internal audits, and continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring compliance with Standing Financial Instructions.

Qualifications

• AAT Member / Degree / CCAB Certificate level accountancy qualification.
• Advanced Excel skills; extensive experience with Microsoft Office programs.
• Experience in a finance department and familiarity with finance procedures.
• Understanding of financial management and accounting techniques in a large organisation.
• Proven ability to communicate with confidence with people at all levels.
• Ability to train, develop and motivate staff.

Responsibilities

• Accurate coding of prime documents including authorisation and completion of expenditure journals and budget journals.
• Authorize and ensure all budget adjustments required are accurately calculated, recorded and actioned.
• Authenticity and accuracy of all expenditure transactions; identify and resolve incorrect payments.
• Authenticity and accuracy of all expenditure accruals and recharges, both internal and external.
• Ensure that debtor invoices are raised for income due.
• Carry out reconciliation of the establishments between the Finance ledger system and the Trust's Personnel Information System.
• Interrogate and analyse computer systems / software to produce financial information and reports.
• Distribute month end budget statements to budget holders in line with timetable.
• Maintain integrity of coding structure and adapt reporting hierarchies as required.
• Keep VAT guidance up to date and reclaim VAT through correct coding.
• Produce information and returns in line with Standing Orders & Standing Financial Instructions.
• Assist HoFM with internal/external auditors and annual budget setting.
• Provide financial analysis through spreadsheets, databases, and ledger reports.
• Lead non-routine management accounting tasks such as skill mix costing, proposals, and efficiency schemes.
• Advise budget holders and respond to financial queries with priority and accuracy.
• Present accurate financial information to enable budget management within resources.
• Train non-financial managers in financial matters and conduct formal training sessions.
