Job description

About the role

An opportunity has arisen for a bright, enthusiastic person with good interpersonal and relational skills to join the Wiltshire Police, Criminal Justice department. The role is based in Swindon, with occasional work at Melksham or Salisbury. A work vehicle can be used when available.

Wiltshire features historic sites such as prehistoric stones, wartime bunkers, secret trails, and hidden churches. Behind these landmarks, generations of police work have helped keep our community safe—heroic, worrying, and always real.

The primary focus of this role is to act as the divisional custodian for archiving all crime files. Additionally, you will undertake administrative duties related to files within the operational support services department, ensuring compliance with time scales and standards. Some lifting and working at height are required; training will be provided.

What you will be doing

  1. Prioritise and manage all incoming and outgoing work, adhering to deadlines.
  2. Review crime files to ensure completeness and proper handling.
  3. Use Police National Computer (PNC), Niche RMS, and FDS to verify file accuracy.
  4. Ensure data accuracy and complete tasks before archiving or file movement.
  5. Identify and resolve anomalies by liaising with officers or departments.
  6. Decide on retaining or destroying paperwork based on risk assessments.
  7. Handle Evidential Property and Digital Evidence forms appropriately.

About you and your experience

  1. Ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
  2. Strong attention to detail and understanding of complex processes.
  3. Efficient time management in a fast-paced environment.
  4. Knowledge of data management and electronic file protocols.
  5. Experience handling confidential information.
  6. Excellent communication skills.
  7. Proficiency in Microsoft Windows software.
  8. Experience with Niche, PNC, and GDPR legislation is desirable.

What we offer

  1. Career development opportunities.
  2. 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing to 30 days.
  3. Hybrid working and flexible hours.
  4. Free gym membership and well-being support.
  5. Generous pension scheme.
