We have an opening for the regular, full-time position of Diversion and Disposal Facility (DDF) Inspector and/or Scale Attendant. The successful candidate will have a Grade 12 Diploma and a valid Class 5 BC driver’s license.
You are friendly and outgoing, tactful with effective communication skills and provide great overall customer service. You are physically fit, able to stand for extended periods and able to work in adverse weather and in conditions typical of a landfill setting (dust, noise, odours, etc.). Basic First Aid certification, previous work experience in a landfill setting or in a customer service capacity will be considered assets.
The Inspector is responsible for inspecting and providing direction and education to customers on recycling and disposal requirements and the Solid Waste Management Bylaw. The Inspector also assists with customer enquiries and maintains the overall cleanliness and safety of the facility.
The Scale Attendant is responsible for providing direction and education to customers on recycling and disposal requirements and the Solid Waste Management Bylaw, as well as managing scale house operations. You have excellent attention to detail, have experience processing cash/debit transactions and can manage daily and weekly financial reporting all while performing under pressure in a high customer volume environment.
Reporting to the Assistant Manager, Diversion and Disposal Facilities Operations, the primary work location will be at the Greater Vernon DDF, but may also work in Armstrong/Spallumcheen or Lumby on occasion. DDFs are open seven days per week, three of the four seasons; weekend shifts will be required.
