Job Title: Distribution Supervisor
Location: Hamilton, Glasgow
Time Type: Full Time
Reporting to: Distribution Manager. The Distribution Supervisor leads the Distribution department within the site and works closely with Distribution, Customer Services, and Warehouse administration teams to deliver the Distribution service.
Shift Pattern: 1 week early shift (06:30 AM – 15:00 PM) and 1 week late shift (09:00 AM – 17:30 PM).
Key accountability areas
- Ensure service and profitability levels are developed and maintained in accordance with departmental targets and budgets.
- Achieve agreed operational targets in line with budget.
- Assess results to ensure financial care, cost awareness, and budgetary targets are achieved.
- Ensure appropriate resources are employed to achieve business objectives within agreed financial parameters.
- Motivate and guide subordinates to achieve targets and to work to their full potential.
- Implement company policy and procedures by ensuring staff have the necessary qualifications and expertise to carry out their roles.
- Ensure legislative compliance where appropriate.
- Ensure the company operates within all agreed operational procedures and statutory requirements, including the provision and maintenance of a safe working environment.
- Impart knowledge, procedures, and legal requirements to subordinates by coaching and training, as needed.
- Prioritise key tasks and workload to achieve best results with available resources within the department.
- Ensure all relevant administrative procedures are followed and completed accurately according to deadlines.
- Identify and report to management on the department\'s needs and requirements.
- Ensure company and customer requirements are fulfilled as per the Operational Manual and the client\'s needs or requirements.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships within the location to improve inter-departmental knowledge and relationships.
- Identify, fulfil, and review training and development needs of all subordinates within the department through the formal appraisal process and ongoing basis.
- Maintain relationships with internal and external suppliers to ensure effective operation and quality service.
- Promote and maintain relationships with internal and external partners, suppliers, and clients to ensure continual development of service and service levels.
- Review and appraise results to ensure accuracy of work (continually).
- Effectively manage resources through assessment of workloads and delegation of tasks to meet deadlines and business objectives.
- Ensure problems and difficulties that arise are dealt with promptly and professionally.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Understand and comply with all relevant company rules, agreements, policies, procedures and with all relevant legislative requirements and codes of practice.
- Ensure company business is treated with strict confidentiality.
- Act in a professional manner, maintain good working relationships, and promote a positive company image.
- Maintain and comply with all Health, Safety and Environmental standards and be aware of the Occupational Health & Safety Management System, and related responsibilities.
- Be aware the company operates a Quality Assurance system ISO 9001:2008 and adhere to the respective procedures.
- Ensure a good standard of housekeeping and secure work areas when unoccupied.
- Where appropriate, challenge and determine reasons for presence on site of any unauthorised person.
- Attend development training as required in compliance with company commitments.
Skills and Competencies
Essential
- 4 GCSEs or equivalent
- 3 years distribution experience
- Previous supervisory experience
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills
- Ability to achieve and exceed business goals
- Ability to lead and motivate direct reports
- Highly motivated with a positive attitude
- High organisational skills, ability to plan and manage own time
- Excellent communication skills, ability to communicate at all levels
Desirable
- 2 A Levels or equivalent
- ICS Accreditation
- Ability to drive organic business growth
- Budgeting and financial reporting experience
- 12 months experience of supervising other distribution team members
- 1 year of performance management experience
- Full driving licence
