Job summary

Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a senior leader to head the pharmacy stores service, ensuring safe, timely medicines distribution across the Trust. You will be the visible face of the service, collaborating with pharmacy, ward and corporate teams.

The role offers opportunities to develop expertise in automated systems (Omnicell and robotic dispensing) and to drive stock management improvements, waste reduction and staff development.

Responsibilities

• Support the operational management of the Trust’s medicines distribution and pharmacy stores service.
• Supervise pharmacy stores staff to ensure a safe, timely and efficient medicines supply across Trust sites.
• Act as a visible point of contact for day‑to‑day operational issues, supporting problem‑solving and service continuity.
• Deliver and support training for users of automated medicines distribution systems, including Omnicell.
• Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and contribute to service performance reports and improvement plans.
• Support effective stock management, including reviewing ward stock levels to reduce medicines waste.
• Provide advice on medicines storage, stock rotation and inventory management in line with Good Distribution Practice.
• Support staff rotas, day‑to‑day supervision and staff development, including competency assessment and revalidation.
• Work collaboratively with pharmacy, procurement, IT and clinical teams to support an effective medicines supply chain.
• Support medicines receipt, picking and distribution, learning from errors to drive improvement.
• Assist with product recalls and support development and review of Standard Operating Procedures.
• Support governance requirements, including Wholesale Dealer Authorisation (Human).
• Participate in the Pharmacy IT on‑call rota, providing out‑of‑hours technical support for automated systems.

This is a unique opportunity to join a forward‑thinking pharmacy service in a key operational leadership role at the heart of medicines distribution.

As a senior member of the pharmacy stores team, you will be instrumental in delivering a safe, efficient and patient‑centred medicines supply service across the Trust. You will be highly visible, acting as the face of the service, working closely with pharmacy, ward and corporate teams to ensure medicines reach patients at the right time, in the right place and in the right condition.

In addition to operational leadership, this role offers the chance to develop specialist skills in automated medicines distribution systems, including Omnicell and robotic dispensing, and to play a central role in training and supporting users across clinical areas. You will help drive improvements in stock management, reduce medicines waste, influence service change and support the development of a skilled and engaged workforce.
