These will include a mix of infrastructure and facilities improvement projects, alongside broader operational change and improvement initiatives. Each project will aim to enhance operational performance, improve safety, and create long-term value.

You will work closely with site leadership, central teams, and external partners to scope and deliver projects on time and within budget. Ensuring alignment with business objectives, regulatory compliance, and Group standards will be central to your role.

In addition to your project responsibilities, you will manage the relationship with the wider Group Maintenance Team, who are responsible for the day-to-day upkeep and operational functionality of our estate. Together, you will ensure all sites remain safe, compliant, and efficient—supporting uninterrupted logistics operations and continuous improvement.

This role is instrumental in shaping the future of our distribution network, balancing strategic investment and improvement with operational excellence.

  • Leading and delivery capital projects from inception, design, planning consent, procurement, construction, delivery, through to practical completion.
  • Overseeing capital expenditure, identifying and prioritising projects that support long-term strategic planning and operational improvement.
  • Designing and implementing operational solutions that enhance network efficiency.
  • Maintaining the Booker relationship with the Group Maintenance Team to ensure facilities remain robust, resilient, and fully operational, supporting uninterrupted logistics operations.
  • Developing and manage detailed project plans, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocations, ensuring delivery within scope and financial parameters.
  • Monitoring project progress, proactively identifying risks and implementing mitigation strategies to keep initiatives on track.
  • Conducting post-implementation reviews, capturing lessons learned and embedding best practices into future projects.
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety standards, regulatory requirements, and Group policies throughout all project phases.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal stakeholders (site leadership, central teams) and external partners through clear, consistent communication.
  • Coordinating cross-functional teams, including operations, facilities, IT, and contractors, to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Driving continuous improvement, identifying and implementing opportunities to enhance operational efficiency, safety, and long-term value.
  • Supporting sustainability efforts in line with the company’s Planet agenda, embedding environmental considerations into project planning and delivery.
  • Strong project management background ideally in a distribution environment
  • Experience in the procurement and delivery of large construction projects.
  • Proven ability to develop long-term financial plans (OPEX/Capital) and analyse complex data to support timely decision-making.
  • Proven experience in management and contractor oversight.
  • Health and Safety background with a minimum of IOSH accreditation
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • An understanding of risk management.
  • Strong influencing and negotiation abilities.
