Overview

Swindon Borough Council are seeking a skilled and proactive Disrepair Surveyor to join their Repairs & Maintenance team. You will be at the forefront of managing Housing Condition Claims, ensuring legal claims are effectively investigated, repairs are delivered to high standards, and tenant satisfaction is prioritised — all while achieving value for money and minimising litigation risk.

Location:Swindon Borough Council

Set-up: Hybrid – 4-days per week on-site ideally

Rate:£350/day via umbrella inside IR35

Duration:Initially 6-9 months

Hours:Full-time position

Responsibilities
  • Conduct detailed property inspections, diagnose defects, and specify remedial works, ensuring timely and cost-effective completion
  • Project manage disrepair cases end-to-end, including contractor oversight, progress monitoring, and quality control
  • Produce clear, detailed technical reports, witness statements, and evidence for legal claims, working closely with BCC Legal Services
  • Maintain regular, transparent communication with tenants, providing updates and ensuring a positive customer experience
  • Assess and agree compensation levels in line with Housing Ombudsman guidance, ensuring compliance with policy and budget
Requirements
  • Proven experience in building surveying, property inspections, and defect diagnosis within a housing or maintenance environment
  • Strong knowledge of housing disrepair legislation, legal claims processes, and dispute resolution
  • Track record of managing projects, contractors, and budgets while delivering high-quality outcomes
  • Skilled in producing technical reports, specifications, and schedules, with excellent written and verbal communication
  • Competent in using housing management or case management IT systems (e.g., iCasework) and handling sensitive customer data securely
