Job description

Blakeney Surgery (part of GDOC LTD) has a vacancy for a part-time dispenser to join our friendly and experienced dispensary team. The dispensary is a key part of the pharmacy and practice team, focusing on safe and timely medicine dispensing and maintaining high service standards for patients and staff.

The Care Quality Commission requires complete employment history from age 16, including explanations for employment gaps.

Main Duties
  1. Dispensary Responsibilities:
  2. Carry out dispensing procedures following Practice SOPs.
  3. Participate in weekly monitored dose system orders (if applicable).
  4. Hand out prescriptions, collect payments, and handle queries.
  5. Explain and hand over outstanding queries to the next shift.
  6. Undertake DRUMs as required.
  7. Respond to clinical requests during surgery.
  8. Address drug alerts promptly.
Working Conditions

The role is primarily based at Blakeney Surgery, with occasional coverage at other practices. It involves frequent, prolonged VDU use.

G DOC LTD is owned by Gloucestershire GP Practices, operating on a not-for-profit basis, with profits reinvested into primary care. We serve multiple practices across Gloucestershire, supporting over 34,000 patients, and run countywide services including Covid Medicines Support.

Job Responsibilities
Working Conditions

The role is mainly based at Blakeney Surgery, with occasional work at Lydney Practice if required.

Dispensary Duties
  • Ensure adherence to SOPs in dispensing.
  • Participate in weekly dose system orders.
  • Distribute prescriptions, collect payments, and handle queries.
  • Explain outstanding queries and hand over to next shift.
  • Undertake DRUMs as needed.
  • Respond to clinical requests.
  • Deal with drug alerts promptly.
  • Monitor refrigerator temperatures.
  • Manage incoming stock and maintain cleanliness and equipment standards.
General Duties
  • Use practice computer systems for data management.
  • Participate in rota management and extended hours as needed.
  • Attend staff and practice meetings.
  • Undertake necessary training.
  • Follow health and safety guidelines.
  • Assist with dispensary cleaning and other practice duties.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 2 in dispensing or higher.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.
Experience
  • Qualified dispenser experience, preferably in GP or primary care settings.
