Dispenser/Administrator - Alston Medical Practice

This role involves a broad range of duties that may be undertaken routinely or periodically. The list below is not exhaustive and additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Dispensing
  • Dispensing acute and repeat prescriptions following AMP standard operating procedures.
  • Ensuring medicines are not dispensed to unauthorized persons without doctor’s consent.
  • Handling repeat prescription requests via telephone, email, fax, or in person.
  • Checking medicines against prescriptions, clarifying any doubts with the prescriber or duty doctor.
  • Updating patients' repeat screens as per doctor's instructions.
  • Dispensing private prescriptions and blacklisted prescriptions, including pricing and recording.
  • Checking colleagues' dispensing work for accuracy.
  • Maintaining a clean and tidy dispensary area.
  • Keeping complete and accurate records of controlled drugs.
  • Covering colleagues during sickness or holidays.
Prescriptions
  • Handing out prescriptions and collecting charges.
  • Receiving prescription repeats electronically or in person.
  • Collecting charges for private prescriptions, vaccines, and prophylactic medications.
  • Sorting, stamping, endorsing prescriptions, and completing prescription backs.
  • Managing stock control, including ordering, returning goods, and removing out-of-date stock.
Stock Control
  • Ordering appropriate stock levels via telephone or computer.
  • Ensuring storage areas are safe, clean, and well-organized.
  • Disposing of unused medicines responsibly.
Reception
  • Processing appointment requests and directing callers appropriately.
  • Recording home visit requests accurately and referring as needed.
  • Explaining practice procedures to new or temporary patients.
Administration
  • Understanding and following all practice procedures and protocols.
  • Handling incoming and outgoing mail, messages, and patient documentation.
  • Preparing patient summaries for home visits.
  • Scanning, shredding, filing, and retrieving paperwork.
  • Advising patients of charges for private services, accepting payments, and issuing receipts.
  • Providing clerical support, including word processing, faxing, photocopying.
  • Maintaining medical notes and ordering supplies.
