Job description

ROLE OBJECTIVE

To support the Dispatch Manager in the smooth, efficient, and hygienic operation of the Dispatch department. The role combines staff supervision, equipment control, safety and quality monitoring, and process improvement, ensuring on-time and accurate dispatch while driving compliance with company standards.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
  • Promote and maintain Health & Safety and 5S standards in the Dispatch department.
  • Supervise and support dispatch operatives and team leaders during shifts.
  • Monitor picking, scanning, wrapping, and loading accuracy to meet customer and business requirements.
  • Ensure equipment (PPTs, scanners, wrapping machines) is checked, used safely, and reported if faulty.
  • Support effective shift handovers, including documentation and machinery checks.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating the daily dispatch programme, escalating variances or issues.
  • Liaise with Production, Transport, Sales, and Office teams to ensure smooth operations.
  • Monitor and report on product quality, labelling, and outbound goods.
  • Help manage resources efficiently to reduce downtime and increase productivity.
  • Support staff development through training, coaching, and performance monitoring.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in methods, safety, and efficiency.
  • Deputise for the Dispatch Manager when required.
  • Uphold all company policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
Standards of Performance
  • Vehicles loaded and dispatched on time.
  • Dispatch accuracy maintained at agreed KPIs.
  • Health & Safety and hygiene standards consistently achieved.
  • Service levels met or exceeded.
  • Labour and equipment are effectively utilised.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications and other requirements

  • A-levels or equivalent qualification (HND, NVQ, or relevant diploma in logistics/supply chain advantageous).
  • Further training or certification in warehouse management, health & safety, or logistics operations (desirable).
  • Full UK driving licence (preferred).

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Proficiency in using WMS and scanning technology.
  • Ability to interpret and analyse reports and performance data.
  • Understanding of transport planning and load preparation.

  • Familiarity with compliance requirements (health & safety, food safety, quality standards).

WORKING PATTERN

  • Location: Thorne, Doncaster.
  • Monday to Friday - As per the roster prepared by the manager
