Dispatch & Contact Officer
Location: Police Headquarters, Winfrith, Dorset
Salary:
- Scale D - Starts at £26,106 rising by yearly increments to a maximum of £28,653 per annum
- Owing to the nature of the role, candidates will need to have reached the age of 18 by the start date.
- Earn up to £34,383 per annum.
- The starting salary for Scale D is £29,760, which includes a 14% shift allowance and the potential to earn up to £2,500 for weekend working. This allowance is claimable*.
- Proficiency (subject to assessments after 999 training) allows a shift to full 24/7 pattern with Scale D £31,327, including a 20% shift allowance and potential weekend earnings up to £2,500*. Initial training lasts 5-7 months, with dispatch training scheduled afterwards within the probation period.
- Yearly increments apply until reaching £34,383, inclusive of 20% shift allowance.
*Weekend working allowance applies only during shift patterns, not during classroom training. A two-week dispatch course is included during probation, during which weekend allowance isn't applicable if weekend shifts aren't worked.

This role requires a friendly, patient, broad-minded individual with a positive attitude, capable of working in a supportive team and making decisions in stressful situations.
Role Responsibilities
- Participate in the Dorset Contact Management operation, providing high-quality service to the public, police officers, and staff.
- Focus on effective contact handling, addressing calls efficiently at first contact, and directing officers and incident control via radio/digital communication.
- Initially work as a triage operator to familiarize with contact center inquiries, with training scheduled as per operational needs.
- Act as the first point of contact for 101 and 999 calls, conducting risk assessments to ensure appropriate responses.
Additional Information
No annual leave during training; training dates will be confirmed upon joining. Travel to Bournemouth for training may be required.
