The Position

As the Disease Area Medical Lead, you will play a pivotal role in achieving our ambitions for a specific disease area(s) within our extensive portfolio. This leadership position involves managing a team of talented medical affairs partners, driving strategic initiatives, and fostering collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

People Leadership and Resourcing:

  • Lead, inspire, and develop a team of medical affairs partners, fostering a high-performance culture.

  • Strategically allocate resources to maximize team effectiveness and productivity.

  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to team members.

Governance of Disease Area(s):

  • Oversee the governance and compliance aspects related to the medical affairs activities within the designated disease area(s).

  • Ensure alignment with regulatory and ethical standards, collaborating with relevant departments to maintain high-quality standards.

  • Drive, embed and maintain a culture of compliance within the assigned disease area(s) and within portfolio enablement cluster

Strategic Direction and Thought Partnership:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional leaders to develop and align medical strategies with overall business objectives either directly or enable this through the aligned medical affairs team.

  • Provide thought leadership and strategic guidance to contribute to the company's long-term success.

  • Possess an extensive understanding of the disease landscape, including current treatment paradigms, emerging trends, and unmet needs.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activities, and market dynamics to inform strategic decision-making.

Customer Relationship Management:

  • In collaboration with other key customer facing roles you will be expected to develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, such as therapy area experts and other allied health professionals.

  • Gather insights from customers to inform strategy and address their needs effectively.

  • Able to represent Roche with customers as a senior business stakeholder.

Continuous Improvement Projects:

  • Lead and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing medical affairs skills and capabilities, processes, efficiency, and overall effectiveness.

  • Drive innovation in medical affairs approaches, utilizing data and analytics to measure and optimize performance.

Experience

  • Proven experience delivering in pharmaceutical medical affairs. Key areas including: Medical Strategy, Customer engagement, collaboration, partnership and insight generation, Evidence generation and Scientific data dissemination

  • Strong leadership skills and ideally experience of line managing and developing teams or leading teams indirectly.

  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements in the pharmaceutical industry. Medical/Business Signatory or ability to undertake this training.

  • Exceptional strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.

  • Experience in Ophthalmology would be beneficial
