POST OBJECTIVE: To support housing services and the Private Sector Housing Occupational Therapist (OT) in delivering the council's statutory duty to undertake home adaptations through Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs). The role involves assessing, processing, and implementing DFGs to enhance the independence and safety of residents across private and social housing sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with assessments, site visits, and the preparation of schedules of works in collaboration with partner agencies.
- Manage the DFG process from application to completion, ensuring all grants are necessary, appropriate, and compliant with legislation.
- Communicate with clients via various methods, including home visits, to determine eligibility and provide advice on the DFG process.
- Process applications, verify supporting information, and keep applicants informed of progress.
- Record and manage documentation and financial records related to DFGs.
- Ensure timely payments to contractors and update relevant databases.
- Attend operational meetings, participate in training, and stay updated on relevant legislation and policies.
- Uphold safeguarding policies and provide high-quality customer service to residents, staff, and partners.
- Support policy reviews, audits, and contribute to team activities.
- Comply with all relevant policies, including safeguarding, equal opportunities, data protection, and health and safety.
- Undertake additional duties as required, consistent with the role and organizational needs.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience with DFG or similar case work in a community setting.
- Experience in housing or related fields, working with older people and individuals with disabilities.
- Knowledge of basic building construction and defects.
- Understanding of the Housing Grants Construction and Regeneration Act 1996.
- Minimum of 5 GCSEs (grades A-C or 4-9), including English and maths, or equivalent.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Effective time management and ability to handle a varied workload.
- Numeracy skills and computer literacy.
- Ability to work under pressure and use initiative.
- Understanding of clients' diverse needs.
- Valid UK driving license and access to a vehicle.
- Commitment to customer care and service user involvement.
