Disability Support Worker – SEN School | GSL Education |Southampton

Salary Scale: £82.80 to £100 per day

Start Date: ASAP

GSL Education are recruiting for Disability Support Workers to join a specialist SEN school dedicated to transforming the lives of students with complex needs including Autism, SEMH, ADHD, and learning disabilities in Southampton.

As a Disability Support Worker, you will deliver high-quality care and tailored support in line with individual student plans. You’ll be a key part of an experienced team, empowering students to build independence, develop essential life skills, and feel valued in their learning journey.

The role of a Disability Support Worker:

• To support students who struggle with their class work
• Facilitate a fun and friendly learning environment
• To provide support to the class teacher
• To help the class teacher prepare lesson materials and classroom boards
• To keep the classroom a tidy and presentable environment
• To encourage children to do their best
• Help manage classroom behaviour
• Listen to the children read and practice their phonics

The successful Disability Support Worker:

• Experience working with children with special educational needs, particularly those with autism or social and emotional needs (preferred, not essential).
• Experience working with SEN (in school, care, or voluntary settings) preferred, not essential
• Knowledge of and experience with behaviour management strategies.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate effectively with parents and other professionals.
• A patient and nurturing approach to working with children.
• Ability to adapt and be flexible in a fast-paced and changing environment.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development in SEN practices and strategies.
