Job description

Disability Projects Officer

SASP is seeking a full-time Disability Projects Officer to lead the delivery and development of activities aimed at increasing the inclusion of disabled people in physical activity and sport. The role involves developing opportunities within Somerset for disabled individuals to access various activities, including regular sessions, events, targeted projects, and partnerships with diverse agencies.

Responsibilities
  1. Collaborate with the Disability team and partner organizations to develop existing projects and sessions, liaising with stakeholders such as parents, carers, schools, colleges, social care, and voluntary agencies.
  2. Ensure participants' voices are considered in designing interventions.
  3. Plan and deliver safe, purposeful sessions for disabled people across different settings, supporting schools, teachers, coaches, and activity providers as needed.
  4. Conduct and support risk assessments for all sessions, ensuring safety and compliance.
  5. Maintain a good understanding of safeguarding, equality, and inclusion policies, adhering to guidelines.
  6. Adapt activities to suit a wide range of needs, including learning disabilities, physical or sensory disabilities, and involving families where appropriate.
  7. Develop Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities for school and college staff to enhance opportunities for disabled children and young people.
  8. Promote opportunities and share good practices to raise awareness of the importance of physical activity for disabled individuals.
  9. Utilize IT and social media skills to support the role.
  10. Participate in relevant training and development activities.
  11. Maintain electronic records, files, and databases in compliance with GDPR for reporting, monitoring, and evaluation.
  12. Perform any other duties as reasonably required.
